The South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa is one of the many hotel and casino establishments situated in Las Vegas Boulevard in Enterprise, Nevada. Operated by owner Michael Gaughan, the South Point Hotel is comprised of three unique 25-storey hotel towers and over 15,000 square metres of convention space, making it one of the larger hotel and casino destinations in the Las Vegas area.
South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa offers various facilities for its guests like a casino, an in-house spa, a movie theatre, a bowling alley and a cutting-edge equestrian arena for horse racing events.
Construction of the South Point Hotel
The construction of South Point began in 2003 under the name of South Coast by Coast Casinos. With over 660 hotel rooms and 74,000 square metres of unused space, the South Coast Hotel was opened in December of 2005 with plenty of room left for the development of restaurants, entertainment facilities and guest amenities.
Additional hotel rooms were also added to the original building, and a second hotel tower was constructed to meet the needs of hotel guests.
South Point’s History and Expansion
Then, in July of 2006, Michael Gaughan purchased the hotel, renaming it the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa in October of that year. It was at this point that Gaughan added a third hotel tower to the building, as well as an extra 900 square metres of convention space and an additional 5 eateries.
The new South Point Hotel thus offered over 2,000 hotel rooms and a total of 15,000 square metres’ worth of space for hosting conventions, shows and events.
Racing and Show Facilities
One of the most notable features of the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa is its equestrian arena, which is dedicated to horse racing events that are held at the establishment. With enough accommodation to house up to 1,200 horses, the South Point Equestrian Arena can also seat 4,400 spectators in an air-conditioned environment.
The South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa also offers a show room with 400 seats for guests, a virtual race and sports book room which can seat 300 bettors, a movie theatre that houses 16 screens and a 64-lane bowling alley, which is accompanied by a Pro Shop.
